Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault
Domestic violence is the use of power and control by one individual over another in an intimate relationship. Domestic violence is a pervasive issue that affects individuals of all ages, genders and backgrounds. Research indicates that Deaf and hard of hearing people report experiencing victimization at higher rates than their hearing counterparts.
Domestic abuse takes many forms and can include:
- physical
- emotional
- psychological
- sexual
- financial
- spiritual
Recognizing the signs and offering support is crucial in helping victims regain control of their lives and find safety. The Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing has partnered with Idaho Council on Domestic Violence and Victim Assistance (ICDVVA) as well as community partners around the state to improve services for Deaf and hard of hearing victims. If you or someone you know is, or might be, experiencing domestic violence, there are accessible resources and support systems in place to help. You can access services several ways;
- Contact the Human Services Program Specialist at CDHH.
- VP: (208) -609-3855
- Text: (208)-599-7712
- Email: Tara.adams@cdhh.idaho.gov
- For information and support in the evenings or on the weekends call the 24 hour national hotline using VRS at 800-799-7233 or 988 (VP) hotline.
- You can also reach out to any of your local DV organizations.
- Please call 911 if you are experiencing an emergency, and they can also direct you to services.
